Bear mischief in Kamiskotia!

I recently spent one week all by myself in Kamiskotia.  My purpose was to help Mom and Dad with their daily chores and to do yard work.  As usual, I wanted to sleep in the little cottage so I spent a whole day getting it ready for usage (I had already winterized it once before).  It felt good and although Dad is always a bit concerned about me being alone there, I am always adamant that I am not afraid.  I love the sounds of the night, the sound of the waves lulling me to sleep and the full moon reflecting on my face.  I had my usual pee in the middle of the night and wasn't concerned at all... until I woke up the next morning.

Morning 1:
The garbage was spread out all over the yard.  Amélie and Dominique arrived that afternoon and found one huge mound of bear poop - The size of one large Don's pizza!

That night, the girls slept with me in the little cottage.  We forgot about the situation and put the garbage into the container outside again.

Morning 2:
The garbage was spread out all over the yard... again.  The girls found additional sightings of bear poop and possible vomit..."Ca c'est du vomi..." Now, Mom and Dad were really concerned and said 'we need to contain that garbage' so Mom recommended that we put the garbage into the secure lean to that Francois crafted this summer.. it's very intense and safe.  We thought.

Morning 3:
We woke up and the bears had ripped the locks off, tore through the doors and ripped through the garbage once again! WOW! We were shocked and amazed.  There were paw marks all over the doors.  It must of been a huge bear.  Imagine, we had slept in the unsecured cottage for 2 nights.  Both Amélie and Dominique couldn't stop talking about that darn bear.

We took the garbage and finally went to the dump.

The moral of the story is:
  1. Don't get complacent about bears,
  2. Sleep in the little cottage at your own risk (I'll be back next summer)
  3. Kamiskotia is the new Jellystone park
  4. Don't sleep bear butt
  5. ...and that's the bear (bare) facts.
Love,
Rosanne (BooBoo)
